Forbidden Music Regained
75 engraved scores now available through HARRASSOWITZ

Forbidden Music Regained is a project initiated by the Leo Smit Foundation dedicated to the discovery and promotion on the works of composers persecuted and banned in the Second World War. Many of these composers were musical leaders of their time but their work has sunk into oblivion.

The Leo Smit Foundation aims at making the lives, work and context of these composers accessible to all again. Since 2020 a team of researchers, copyists, proofreaders and editors, coordinated by Donemus Publishing, worked on preparing the publication of selected works from the Forbidden Music Regained catalog. This catalog comprises 939 compositions and over 40,000 pages, and presents a valuable source for academic researchers among others.

Forbidden Music Regained is a collaborative project by Donemus Publishing, the Leo Smit Foundation and the Netherlands Music Institute.

Three volumes of 25 scores each are currently available as full scores or pocket scores. A forth volume is scheduled for publication in late 2023.
