The Microbiology Society is one of the largest microbiology societies in Europe with a worldwide membership based in universities, industry, hospitals, research institutes and schools. The society is expanding its Publish and Read programme, aiming to help more researchers participate in and benefit from the following advantages of Open Access (OA) publishing:

- Increase your impact - Articles published Open Access in Society journals get on average 2.6 times more citations and 4 times more usage than paywalled content, based on data from Web of Science across all Society journals.
- Support your community - Publishing with the Microbiology Society raises funds for grants, events, and policy projects for microbiologists across the world.
Institutions that sign up for a Publish and Read agreement benefit from:
- Uncapped Open Access Publishing - any article published in Society titles where the corresponding author is from a Publish and Read institution will be Open Access by default.
- Unlimited usage - any user associated with a Publish and Read institution can access the entire archive of Society content, back to 1947, for reading and for text and data mining.
- Frictionless Open Access experience - Publish and Read is designed to provide a frictionless OA experience for authors and maximum value for institutions, with minimum administration. It offers institutions an alternative to both subscriptions and article processing charges (APCs).
