The first volume of the long-awaited historical-critical complete edition of Anton Webern's works will soon be published!

This edition closes a long-standing gap and is aimed equally at researchers and performers. The complete edition is expected to be published continuously with two volumes per year and presents a comprehensive collection of the composer's entire artistic output at the cutting edge of research. It includes not only the 31 opus works, but also numerous previously unknown versions of these works and treasures from the estate. In addition, it contains study compositions from Webern's time with Arnold Schönberg which are being published for the first time and selected sketch material.

Anton Webern

(* December 3, 1883 in Vienna; † September 15, 1945 in Mittersill) was an Austrian composer, conductor and musicologist. As a student of Arnold Schönberg, he is one of the most important representatives of the Viennese School. Initially strongly influenced by late Romanticism, Webern developed into one of the most important representatives of 20th Century musical expressionism.

The complete edition is published as a print edition and is supplemented by extensive contextual information, which is made available in open access on an online platform. The print edition of each volume contains an introduction to the genesis of the compositions, the edited musical texts and an excerpt from the critical report, which provides information on the most important editorial interventions and problems.

The online edition also offers sketch editions and complete critical reports with detailed source descriptions.

The complete edition is divided into three series (I-III), each with five sections (1-5).
