First Successfully Pledged P2O-Titles Now Available

Following our launch of the full Purchase to Open (P2O) integration into Fokus, the HARRASSOWITZ system for acquisition and management of scholarly resources, we are pleased to announce another important milestone: The first P2O titles have reached their funding goals and are now openly accessible!

This achievement highlights the academic community’s growing commitment to sustainable Open Access publishing - a commitment that HARRASSOWITZ is proud to support through innovative services for optimized library workflows.

Seamless P2O Integration in Fokus

The full P2O integration makes it even easier to discover, support, and manage eligible Open Access content in the same environment you are already using for your existing acquisition workflows.

P2O content can be easily found by using the Open Access dropdown on the main search screen in Fokus. Simply choose "Purchase to Open" for a full list of titles eligible for pledges.

Integrated P2O Discovery through our NTA-Service

An important part of this seamless integration is the inclusion of participating titles into HARRASSOWITZ's New Title Announcements (NTAs).

This service enables libraries to create subject-specific profiles and receive email notifications for newly available titles that match their collection development interests. Each NTA contains a direct link to the title record in Fokus, where libraries can immediately review, order, or save titles for later consideration.

Announcements for P2O titles can either be delivered through dedicated NTA profiles or seamlessly integrated into already existing setups: Libraries already using the service can therefore include eligible titles within their established workflows without any additional effort.

About the Initiative

Purchase to Open (P2O) is a cross-publisher initiative operated by Transform to Open GmbH that enables the open access publication of scholarly books through collective library funding and integration into existing acquisition workflows. As our industry continues to explore sustainable models for Open Access, P2O offers a joint approach that makes scholarly books openly accessible through the collective efforts of libraries, publishers, and booksellers.

How it works

Publishers make selected upcoming titles available for funding and libraries can then participate by pledging their support through their preferred bookseller. Once the required funding threshold is reached, participating titles become available worldwide. Participating libraries retain perpetual access, regardless of the campaign's outcome.
