Accessibility information from publishers and providers |
Use Fokus to find accessibility information from publishers and providers
With the new ADA Title II regulations, libraries in the United States must ensure their online content and digital resources are accessible according to WCAG 2.1 Level AA - by April 2026 or 2027, depending on service area size. This means libraries need to document accessibility, remediate resources, and demonstrate ongoing compliance.
Recognizing these challenges, HARRASSOWITZ has taken proactive steps to support libraries. For several months, we have been actively collecting detailed accessibility information from publishers and providers - including direct URLs, the availability of Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs), and the applicable WCAG compliance level.
This data is seamlessly integrated into Fokus, the HARRASSOWITZ system for acquisition and management of scholarly resources. Within Fokus libraries can:
- Find accessibility information in the Access Options tab for subscriptions, standing orders, and monographs.
- Request a Current Subscription List within the management report section to receive a list of all current subscriptions purchased through HARRASSOWITZ, including which resources have VPATs and meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
Fokus itself is developed to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. A VPAT for Fokus is available upon request, and ongoing improvements are part of our release plan.
In case you do not yet have access to Fokus, the HARRASSOWITZ system for acquisition and management of scholarly resources, register here or contact service@harrassowitz.de . |
