Information about shipments to United States |
Dear librarian,
We have had many inquiries from our library customers regarding the US administration’s elimination of the de-minimus limit for duties on imports scheduled to start on Friday, August 29,2025.
Currently we can confirm that shipments reaching you directly from HARRASSOWITZ (i.e. firm orders, approval shipments, standing orders, consolidated shipments) are not affected, as we ship via FedEx.
Shipments not sent via national postal services such as DHL or USPS will not be affected by this change. As HARRASSOWITZ ships via FedEx your shipments from Wiesbaden will continue to reach you directly without additional import duties. For the time being, printed material, with some exceptions, remains exempt from duties. (U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Chapter 49.)
Most direct shipments from publishers to our mutual customers (generally print journals), however, are shipped via the various national postal services and once they reach the US, via USPS. New procedures need to be established here. As arrangements for small, formerly duty free, shipments aren't in place yet, most European postal services interrupted their small package service to the US as of Monday, August 25. They await new procedures to be implemented before being able to resume service.
This is a fluid situation, and as we receive information that may affect your shipments for drop-shipped titles, we will display that information in our online interface, Fokus.
Sincerely, HARRASSOWITZ |
