HARRASSOWITZ is pleased to award the 2019 Charleston Conference Scholarship to Melissa Davis, Faculty Librarian, Warrington Library, Pensacola State College.
Ms. Davis was awarded the $1,000 scholarship to attend the conference, which takes place November 4-8, 2019 in Charleston, South Carolina.
In support of the 2019 conference theme of “The time has come... to talk of many things!”, applicants for this year’s scholarship were asked to submit a short essay on the topic “What does <The time has come... to talk of many things!> mean to libraries and vendors?”
Judging the submissions were Sarah Forzetting, Ordering, Payments, and Gifts Librarian, Stanford University; Trey Shelton, Chair, Acquisitions & Collections Services, University of Florida; and Justin Clarke, HARRASSOWITZ’s Director of Sales and Marketing for North America.
The complete essay can be downloaded here.

HARRASSOWITZ has an active standing order for a Finnish title that goes back to 1953 and is more than 60 years old?
The oldest standing order that is still actively being serviced was ordered on June 22, 1953.
Since our Standing Order Services has been supplying titles from Scandinavia for more than 6 decades, they can rely on their long-standing relationships with publishers from the region to provide the most professional and affordable service to our customers. Unlike other European countries, Scandinavia does not have a specialized infrastructure for the book trade. Thus, a lot of research and extensive work is needed to acquire books. For example, the very high percentage of university publications means frequently changing contacts and order workflows. The HARRASSOWITZ Standing Order Services staff is extremely experienced and relies on system-supported routines that can be customized based on the individual requirements of the publishers. We invite you to join the satisfied libraries that order Scandinavian standing order material from HARRASSOWITZ.
