Did you know that...

... the HARRASSOWITZ Publishing House is publishing the Series "Polnische Profile"?

The series contains three works with bibliographies about Polish personalities in music history.

The most recent publication from Rüdiger Ritter is a portrait about Stanisław Moniuszko (1819-1872). He is generally referred to as "the father of the Polish National Opera" and ultimately became the Polish national composer and director of the Warsaw Opera Theater.

With more than 300 piano songs, Moniuszko is also known as the "Polish Schubert" - and just as with his German counterpart, some of the piano pieces by Moniuszko have a folk-song character. Although Moniuszko was sometimes even more valued by his contemporaries than Chopin, Moniuszko remained little known throughout his life in the West, despite his studies in Berlin and his travels to France. To this day, his compositions are an insider tip, testifying to the richness of European musical history, which can still be discovered beyond the beaten track.

A copy of this publication will be exhibited at our booth at the IAML conference.

Still accepting applications!

HARRASSOWITZ is pleased to offer once again a $1,000 scholarship to attend the Annual Charleston Conference that takes place November 4-8, 2019, in Charleston, SC.

The scholarship is to be awarded to a librarian or paraprofessional who is currently working in a library and who has not yet attended a Charleston Conference. Pursuant to the 2019 Charleston Conference theme of “The time has come... to talk of many things!”, applicants are asked to write an essay of no more than 1,000 words on the following topic:

Essays should be sent to scholarship@harrassowitz.de by July 15, 2019 and should be accompanied by a one-page resume. HARRASSOWITZ will notify the winner of the scholarship on August 19, 2019.
